Join us for this special screening of the new film by Jay Craven, featuring a post Q+A conversation with the director.
Film Synopsis:
“Lost Nation” is a Revolutionary War action drama set in the early upstart territory now known as Vermont – that was fiercely contested, at the time, between New York land barons including the Rensselaers and Van Cortlandts - and a corrupt governor of New Hampshire, Benning Wentworth. New York’s claim was upheld by King George III and, later, the Continental Congress. But Wentworth ignored the edicts and started selling cheap titles to these New York claims - to poor settlers from upstate New York and southern New England who rushed to buy and settle 50 and 100-acre plots. As a matter of possible interest to local residents, this Vermont land struggle followed a similar years-long clash in the Hudson River Valley that was crushed by militias ordered into action by Royal New York strongman governor, William Tryon.
